We woke up at 6:30 for another outdoor hot bath, before crazy but delicious breakfast.
Our train was at 8:20, hence the early start, and the rain was bucketing down. Even though the station was only a 2 minute walk, the owners of the place insisted on driving us there after giving us 2 giant apples. Again, the Japanese are nuts.
After that we were train bound until 1:45 when we arrived at Kyoto. There were a few changes, but given the Japanese train system and its extreme punctuality, these were nothing to worry about.
Further, after about an hour the rain disappeared and we were left with the sunniest of days. For all the worry of a typhoon, barely a drop touched our heads.
We couldn't check in to our apartment until 2:30, so grabbed a quick lunch at the station before heading up the Kyoto tower to get our lay of the land.
This done, we were able to head to the flat and down to the local laundromat to do our first load of washing! Surprisingly easy, but an annoying way to have to spend 2 hours.
By the time that was all done, we didn't have time to do much else as we were meeting 2 of Ant's friends, Alastair and Davide, for dinner at 7. I did have enough time to swing by UniQlo to buy some new trousers - my current ones are stained with ramen, and new ones are half the price they are in the UK.The restaurant we went to was awesome. We ate lots of delicious food - including a couple of kinds of okonomiyaki (omeletts) and some delicious noodles. The table was built around a big flat plate that a lot of the food was cooked on.
After that we went to a tiny hidden bar that had been recommended to Ant and me before heading home! We did have to do an about face just before our front door as we realised our bag was still in the bar, but fortunately this really is a super safe country!
Lots of temple hopping to do tomorrow (my favourite part is that any only has lace up shoes, so takes him 5 minutes to get them off and on every time we go in one!)
