Day 2 - Tskiji, Ueno Park, Asukasa

Woke up EARLY. Wasn't meant to be, but was. Went to Tsukiji fish market earlier than planned, but in hindsight glad it wasn't any later! It was super busy when we arrived at 9am, so don't get there any later if you plan on having food before midday. We weren't sure where to go (tsukijishinto station, turn left and left again) and ended up getting told off for trying to go into the non tourist bit!
We went to a place called Sushi-bun in the market for breakfast sushi. Lots of queuing, but very organised and with refreshments so not half bad really. Ant was very good and tasted everything (although salmon roe did not go down well!)I loved almost all of it, though I'm not sure I can tell good sushi from excellent sushi.
We then went to the zoo in Ueno park. Made a new friend called Amy, she's the daughter of one of Ant's friends and possibly the cutest four year old ever. She really liked playing with me because I'm on about the same mental level as her.
There was a nice Shrine in the park where we got our fortunes given to us by a dancing dragon God. Also, he was a slot machine. There was also some Japanese ladies playing Disney songs on massive bamboo instruments. Tokyo is awesome. We explored Ueno briefly before going to Asakusa and visiting the big temple there. It's the most visited in Tokyo and really quite impressive, it also has a big pagoda. We love a pagoda.
We then went to the sky tree but the queue was epic so we didn't go up it. I think you can book tickets, so that is to be investigated.
I'd had a recommendation of a bar on the fourth floor of a building in the middle of business town. It only had twelve seats and no menu, the bar tender (one of the very best in Japan) just asks what you like and creates you something. We had a few drinks there and they were all incredibly tasty, but then it was quite late and we hadn't eaten since breakfast so went searching for food. It was tough to find somewhere open that we wanted to eat at, so ended up eating cold spicy noodles and something unidentifiable in a Korean restaurant near home. Not delicious, but lesson learnt. Just back in the apartment having a "cup of tea" before bed. Things we have learned: Get a handy guide - they are very handy. Know where you want to eat! Ask locals for good places to go Today we saw the following: A pig on a lead being walked through town. 3 cats being pushed in a pram 2 dogs in a different pram A market selling bowls. A huge market. Selling bowls.
